How And When To Format A Computer

Formatting may be described as the procedure of cleaning the 'Hard Drive' removing everything that was already stored in it. Any user having a simple knowledge of DOS commands and having an 'OS(Operating System) Disc. Since formatting involves deleting all the programs/data from the computer, all the programs will have to be installed again. Therefore, it is better to know when to format a computer.

                                                                                       

                                         

Reasons

• When The Hard Drive Is Almost Full :-

When old and unnecessary files remain stored in the 'Hard Drive' over the years, they are bound to make the computer slow and sluggish. At this point of time, the computer also refuses to store further files or takes time to store new files/data. This means that the capacity of the hard disk is almost used and computer needs to be relieved of old and unnecessary data. It is a time consuming process to find each and every data/file manually and delete all of them one by one. Besides the hard drive may remain full of many 'temporary files' that make the computer slow. It is almost impossible to locate each and every temporary file and delete them. Under these circumstances, a formatting is indispensable to make the computer run fast again.  

                                   

• Computer Doesn't Start Easily :-

Windows Registry is a very Key feature of the computer as it comprises all the configuration options and setting of the OS(Operating System). If there is a virus attack that changes the settings of this configuration, the computer refuses to start easily or produces a black screen. When this happens the computer refuses to start or boot only because the OS cannot be loaded. Formatting is the only solution.

                                     

• Too Many Errors :-

Virus are actually corrupt files, sent by unreliable sites, to the computer, when the user browse the internet without a proper 'Antivirus Protection'. Although 'Free Antivirus' gives some protection to the computer but they cannot throw a total shield and protect the user against the most lethal viruses like 'TROJAN'. These viruses corrupt the system and not let the user to use the computer properly or do not allow the user to open files. The only option left is 'Formatting'.
