What is a Ram? What is a ROM? What is a HDD?

What is a RAM? What is a ROM?

Ram or 'Random Access Memory' is a 'computer memory'(Internal storage
areas in a computer) that can be accessed randomly. Here randomly signifies
that any number of 'bytes' of memory can be approached(read/write)
without touching and disturbing the other preceding 'bytes'. Bytes( abbreviation
of Binary) signifies a 'unit' of storage. One byte is capable of holding a
single character. In latest computers one 'byte' is equal to 8 'bits'. Memories
are indicated in terms of 'kilobytes'(KB), 'megabytes'(MB) or 'gigabytes(GB).
For instance, a specific file may contain (2,025 bytes) or it may contain
(5.215.743 bytes) or (3,985,486.000 bytes) and so on.

Ram may be of two types - Dynamic Random Access Memory(DRAM) or
Static Random Access Memory(SRAM). These two types of  RAM differ
in technology and their application. DRAM is the most common type of
RAM used in our computers nowadays though SRAM is faster. Common
users of computers, for whose knowledge this blog is intended, need not go
into further complex  technology of RAM. They are meant for technical personnel.

Rom or 'Read Only Memory' is a type of storage medium used in computers
and other electronic appliances. Data stored in ROM can be read but cannot
be easily modified/changed. It is mainly used in 'software'(programs) that is
closely linked to efficient functioning of some 'Hardware'(hard disc drive HDD,
mouse, monitor, keyboard, printer, motherboard and many more). Again
general users of computers need not overload their brains to know every
structure and program of  ROM as they are meant for 'Software & Hardware
Engineers'

What is a Hard Disc Drive or HDD?

The hard disc drive or HDD is the biggest data storage hardware/device
inside a personal computer. A hardware means all the physical components
of a computer that make up a full computer system e.g. HDD/SMPS/Mouse
/Keyboard/Monitor/RAM/CPU/Motherboard and many more). The HDD is
sometimes referred to as 'Hard Drive' also. The basic function of HDD is to
store and also retrieve data as when required. The size of a HDD may be 3.5"
or 2.5" for a PC or Laptop respectively.
A Hard Drive may comprise one or more Platters (small disk of aluminium/
glass or ceramic coated in a magnetic media on which the computer writes the
data. As soon as the computer starts, the platter starts to rotate and the read/
write head touching the platter starts retrieving the data or writes fresh data
on it.just like a Tape Recorder or CD ROM player/writer. The data in the Platter
is stored in various tracks, sectors and cylinders to enable the user to locate
specific data efficiently and quickly. When listening to songs/music on a CD, we
find different songs on different track for easy access.

Can You Afford To Rely On A Free Antivirus?

Can you rely on a free Antivirus?
Free antivirus programs available are also numerous and diversified
like paid antivirus programs. Although free antivirus programs offer some
protection to the computer but under no circumstances they can be
compared with paid antivirus programs. After all, they are free.

Most free antivirus programs offer protection while surfing the internet. In
case anything goes wrong and the PC is invaded by some lethal malware
you cannot resort to immediate help.

Most free antivirus provide support only on their online forums. You may
get some good 'Do it Yourself' advices here also Wilders Security Forums
but even there nobody can be directly approached if you have got a free
Antivirus program.

Free Antivirus programs have generally less-frequent signature
database update than paid Antivirus programs. The PC becomes
vulnerable to newer types of 'malwares' because of this drawback.
There are of course, some free antivirus app that update their signatures
at least once daily.

In terms of scanning, free Antivirus app usually have less options compared
to paid Antivirus programs from the same company.

Lastly it may be concluded, if your purpose is only to browse the web, you
may go in for a free Antivirus program.

WARNING: If  you have an online business or independent professional job
and  if you have files in your PC losing of which may cost you dearly, never
opt for a free Antivirus program. Spend a little to be on the safer side.

What is an Antivirus? What is a Virus? What is an Utility?

What is an Antivirus?
An Antivirus is a software program or software utility aimed at
safeguarding your computer or system against a threat from  viruses.
The Antivirus in your computer automatically warns you when you are
entering an unsafe website. The Antivirus also alerts when your computer
is attacked by a virus displaying - the type of virus, the exact file/area
where it has attacked and the actions you can take viz., remove/delete/
ignore/move to vault etc. Without an Antivirus your entire work/job
saved in the computer, may be wiped out by a virus.

What is a virus?
A computer virus is actually a program or script designed to destroy
or modify or delete all or a particular data in computer, to obtain personal or
confidential information saved in computer, to display messages, to send
email. It may also force not to let open a particular file or programe. The virus
in a computer spreads like cancer in human body. It copies itself many times
and invades all files and programs. Virus programers are actually expert
software writers who possess detailed knowledge of computer vulnerabilities.

What is an Utility?
An  utility is an application or program of small size aimed at carrying
out a particular task relating to system resource management. A good
example of this may be 'CC Cleaner' which cleans up all unecessary
files/cookies from the computer and lets the computer work faster.
